Minutes of  Board Meeting

The Board meeting was called to order at 12:00 PM, on August 14, 2009 at Crab Orchard Boat and Yacht Club in Carterville, Illinois.

In attendance:

1.       Prospective members: Prospects have received letters from the president inviting them to join the Chapter and upcoming events. To complete the recruitment process, MOAA national also does a follow-up sending email to them.

 

2.       The Baseball Game at RentOne Park, Marion, Illinois: 28 persons paid for game and tickets were mailed to them.

 

3.       George Hagans, Illinois Veteran of the Month for August 2009: The ceremony will be at the Illinois State Fair in Du Quoin, August 30, at 2 pm. Invitation letters were sent out by the Illinois Department of Veteran’s Affairs.  An Email reminder will be sent out the week prior to the ceremony.  The Chapter was invited to man the Veteran’s Affairs table during the fair.

 

4.       Veterans On Parade: The parade is on Saturday, September 12, 2009 in Marion. The president will provide his trailer to be used as a parade float displaying a banner (10’ x  2’) with the following caption on both sides:

 

                                      Continuing to Serve

                              Military Officers Association of America

 

               

              Three flags - -  federal, state and Chapter - -  will be on display on the front of the float. 

Bunting was suggested to decorate the float.

Mike Pierpoint and his wife will take part in the parade.

George Hagans will assume the role of the Old Aviator.

Robert Waldron will be asked if he plans to ride his military vehicle in the parade this year.

Dale Holloman, Jim Fosse, John Mingo, and Art and Dona Hanley will be asked to represent branches of uniformed services.

Judith Rawls will be asked to represent female military.

 

5.       Chapter Web site: In addition to basic and background information, David Wiggs plans to add dates and locations of meetings, and other pertinent information to make the page current.

 

6.       150-year-old cemetery in Marion: The Chapter is committed to help restore the tombstone and maintain the cemetery. Mark Krone, one of the Chapter members, offers to help.  A sign will be put up to indicate that it is MOAA project to restore the cemetery. 

 

7.       Bob Bordenave said he and his wife will not be able to host the Chapter meeting at their residence in summer next year because of an increasing number of visitors to Oakridge Manor.

 

8.       The president will attend an Air Force Village meeting on September 26 during Scott AFB’s Retiree’s Day event.  The Air Force Village welcomes retired and honorably separated military officers from all branches of military service, their spouses, widows, widowers and eligible dependents.

 

9.       The next general Chapter meeting in September is at Bill and Carole’s.

 

10.   The next board meeting will be in October.
